Today many of us face financial problems. Some of the problems are short lived and are soon sorted. However sometimes our financial problems can feel there is no way out, but i know that there is. Now i am not saying that doing the things i am doing, i will become rich, well not to the things of this world but of things of an higher.

So where to start? Do you attend a church, if so is there a way that you can make a financial contribution that would be used for humanitarian aide. Now i am not just on about the humanitarian aide in another country or even in another state or county or even town but is there a was for you to donate money that will help those in need in your neighbourhood, in your very church group? This contribution needs to be a regular payment, a payment that you will notice. Where i attend church we make a voluntary payment of 10% of our annual income. If you are not able to pay it through church then set the payment up to pay to your favourite charity, but make it a local one.

The next thing that is going to help you feel more financially secure is to fast for two meals every month and give the value of those two meals to a charity or humanitarian that helps to feed local people. Give thanks to God for all that you have. Now it is not up to me to tell you how much to pay, but if you need to count the pennies then do so, but if you have plenty then give generously.

Next what are you doing to be self reliant? A mere desire to be self reliant is not enough we need to make a conscious effort to provide for ourselves and our families. Being self reliant allows us to bless others. The Lord as made us a promise in Malachi 3

‘Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.’

Malachi dares to asks the question, will you rob God? and then he states we have robbed him by not paying tithes and offerings.

The Malachi goes on to tell us about the Lord’s promised blessings that will come from paying a tithe and fast offering.

‘Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of the host, if i will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.’

I have a friend who tells me that although it was once a practice to pay tithes and offerings they stopped and are now to afraid to start it again as they fear people will leave. I have just about enough money to live on and yet i pay both out of every penny that comes in even though i am no longer working i pay 10% and out of my small food budget i pay a fast offering. Why? To feed the hungry and provide for those who have less than i do and because the Lord gave me a commandment and i try my best to live it.

Would you leave your church if they asked you to pay tithes and offerings?
