Admire

WP photo challenge this week is ‘Admiration‘. What do you admire and why?

We should all admire our national flag and be proud of our country of birth. This flag flies at the War Memorial in Bailiff Bridge and normally when I have been to photograph it, it is normally wrapped around the pole due to the weather, however this time it was flying proud. However, the one time i need my camera with me it is at home and i ended up taking this photo with my mobile phone.

This photo was taken in November last year and shows the name Norman Hirst. Norman Hirst is my 1st cousin, 2x removed. He was born in Brighouse, 1894, and died in France and Flanders on the 14th August 1915. I have never met him or others like him on my family tree but yet i admire all of them for their courage and bravery in giving their lives so that I can be free.

  1. I think it’s really lovely that you’ve ended up living in a place where a lot of your ancestors are from. It’s like the place is in your bones and your blood 🙂
